Toni Franz

Toni Franz (born April 11, 1983 in Leipzig ) is a German swimmer who mainly competes in open water .

Franz lives in Leipzig, starts for the club SC DHfK Leipzig and is trained by Eva Herbst . In addition to his sporting career, he studied medicine and now works as an assistant doctor for urology at the Leipzig University Hospital.

So far Toni Franz has won 18 medals at German championships , six times German champion and three times vice-champion. He took part in the 2005 and 2007 World Championships in Montreal and Melbourne, where his best result was seventh place over the 5 km distance. At the European Championships in Madrid in 2004 , Franz achieved fifth place over the 5 km. At the European Swimming Championships in 2008 in Dubrovnik (Croatia) he won the bronze medal over the Olympic 10 km course. A special achievement was his swimming through the English Channel in 2005.
