Sara Isakovič (born June 9, 1988 in Bled , Yugoslavia ) is a Slovenian swimmer who spent most of her childhood in Dubai .

Career

Before Isakovič emigrated to the USA to study in Berkeley at the University of California and train there with the CalBears swimming team, she belonged to the swimming club Žito Gorenjka Radovljica in Radovljica , Slovenia and was trained there by Miha Potočnik.

Isakovič first appeared at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens at a major international swimming competition. She competed there in the 50 meters, 100 meters and 200 meters freestyle, as well as with the Slovenian 4 × 200 meter freestyle relay and was able to record her best individual result with 18th place over 200 meters. With the season she reached the 16th place.

In December of the same year, at the European Short Course Championships 2004 in Vienna , she made it into the finals over 200 meters and 400 meters freestyle and finished fifth over 200 meters and eighth over 400 meters.

She celebrated her first international successes at the Mediterranean Games in Almería in 2005 , when she won the silver medal in the 200 meters and 400 meters freestyle. Just under a month later, at the World Swimming Championships in Montreal , she reached the final of the 200 meter freestyle and finally came in fifth.

In 2005 she also finished eighth on her special course, the 200 meter freestyle, at the European Short Course Championships in Trieste

Her only title so far in major international competitions is the 2008 European Championship, at the European Swimming Championships in Eindhoven over 200 meters freestyle. She also competed in the 100 meter freestyle and 100 meter butterfly competitions and finished eighth there.

Isakovič caused the greatest international sensation at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing when she won the silver medal in the 200 meters freestyle behind Federica Pellegrini .

Private

Sara Isakovič's uncle Mile Isaković was Olympic handball champion with Yugoslavia in 1984.
