Dmitri Wassiljewitsch Komornikow ( Russian Дмитрий Васильевич Коморников , scientific transliteration Dmitrij Vasil'evič Komornikov ; born July 28, 1981 in Pechora , Komi Republic , Soviet Union ) is a Russian breaststroke swimmer .

Career

Komornikow competed twice in the Summer Olympics. In 2000 in Sydney he finished ninth on his parade route, the 200 m chest. In 2004 in Athens he finished 17th on the same route.

In 2003 he swam into the center of international swimming in one fell swoop, when he won the meetings belonging to the Mare Nostrum series in Monte Carlo with a European record and in Barcelona with a new world record. The time set in Barcelona is still the fastest time a European has ever swum.
