Reiko Nakamura

Reiko Nakamura ( Japanese 中 村 礼 子 , Nakamura Reiko ; born May 17, 1982 in Yokohama ) is a Japanese back swimmer .

Reiko Nakamura had her international breakthrough at the 2001 Summer Universiade in Beijing , where she won gold in the 200m backstroke. On the same track, she won silver behind Lindsay Benko at the 2002 Short Course World Championships in Moscow . In 2003 , gold over 200 m backs, silver over 100 m backs and bronze with the 4 × 100 m individual relay team was added again at the Universiade. On her special 200 m back course, Nakamura also won the bronze medal at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens . Over 100 m back she just missed another medal in fourth. With the 4 × 100m individual medley relay, she was fifth. The Yokohamarin also won bronze over the 200 m back at the 2005 World Championships in Montreal , and over 100 m she missed bronze in fourth place, as at the Olympic Games the year before. In addition, there was a seventh place with the individual relay.

2006 saw Nakamura win her first international title. As part of the Pan Pacific Championships in Victoria , she won gold in the 200 m back and bronze over 100 m. The Japanese was also successful at the 2007 World Championships in Melbourne . She won the bronze medals over 100 m and 200 m back. Over 50 m back she was fifth and sixth in the individual medley relay. The high point of 2008 was the Olympic Games in Beijing . First, Nakamura reached the finals over 100 m back and was sixth there, as in her third and last race with the individual medley relay. Over 200 m back she won the bronze medal again behind Kirsty Coventry from Zimbabwe and Margaret Hoelzer from the USA. She set a new Asian record with 2: 07.13 minutes.
