Laura Wilkinson

Laura Ann Wilkinson (born November 17, 1977 in Texas ) is a former American water diver. She won gold in diving at the 2000 Summer Olympics .

In addition to diving, she competed in synchronized jumping from both the tower and the 3-meter board.

Because of a foot injury, Wilkinson practiced one of her jumps at the 2000 Summer Olympics, starting with a handstand. This was an absolute novelty in this competition. Four years later at the Summer Olympics in Athens, she finished fifth. At her last Olympic participation in 2008 she was ninth. In 2004 she won the World Cup. A year later she became world champion.

In 2008 she announced her resignation.
