Milena Duchková (born April 25, 1952 in Prague ) is a Czech water diving coach and was a Czechoslovak high diver and Olympic champion.

biography

Despite her height of only 1.57 meters (because of which she was almost not allowed to dive in what was then Czechoslovakia), she became one of the most successful water sports enthusiasts in her country. In 1972 she was honored with the Czech President's Award of Distinction . In 1976 she completed her last competition at the Olympic Games in Montreal. Later she was a member of the NOK of Czechoslovakia, from 1978 to 1979 an official doctor, from 1978 to 1980 coach of the Czech national diving team.

Milena is fluent in German and five other languages. Despite the high demands in sport, she studied sport in Prague , later medicine with a focus on dental surgery. She obtained her doctorate in 1977.

In 1980 she emigrated to Canada and turned her back on the communist regime in Czechoslovakia. First place of residence in immigration was Montreal . She became the head coach of the diver in Newfoundland and also advised the Canadian national team. In 1983 she was inducted into the international swimming pool 's hall of fame .

Since the degree was not recognized in Canada, Milena studied dentistry at the University of Manitoba and completed the quota in two instead of the regular four years. She trained the Pan Am Diving Club in Winnipeg . Since 1983 she has lived with Peter Neveklovský, a volleyball coach. In 1989 they moved to Vancouver where Milena opened a private dental practice. She has three children who are successful in tennis.

At the age of 16, she immediately won the gold medal at the Olympiad in Mexico:
