Caroline Smith
Caroline Smith (born July 21, 1906 in Cairo , Illinois , † November 11, 1994 in Las Vegas ) was an American diver . She participated in the Olympic Games and won a gold medal.
At the age of 17/18, Caroline Smith took part in the 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris . She started the competition from the diving tower and was able to win the gold medal. Caroline Smith prevailed over her compatriot Elizabeth Becker and the Swede Hjördis Töpel . It was the first gold medal for an American woman in high diving.
