history

In Kochendorf there was already a synagogue of the Jewish community in the 18th century . Its location is not known; it may well have been the predecessor of the new synagogue at Mühlstrasse 12, which was built in 1806 by the Jewish community. The prayer room was on the first floor of the building, in the basement there was probably a mikveh (ritual bath), since, according to a decree of the Württemberg Ministry of the Interior to the Heilbronn, Neckarsulm and Weinsberg authorities in 1821, inquiries were made as to whether a device for heating the bath water was asked is present.

The building was renovated in 1872, whereby the Jewish community, which was financially heavily burdened by the construction of its own Jewish cemetery in Kochendorf , asked the community of Kochendorf for a subsidy of 1,000 guilders towards the renovation costs. After the decline of the Jewish community due to emigration and emigration in the second half of the 19th century, the building came to the Protestant parish in 1925. She later sold it to private customers. Then the synagogue was converted into a residential building, with the building being increased by one floor.
