Maxim Podoprigora (born April 18, 1978 in Kiev , Ukrainian SSR ) is a former Austrian swimmer .
Podoprigora has lived in Vienna since 1992 , where he began training for swimming. His parents are the successful swimmers Eugenia Rakitina and Juri Podoprigora from the USSR .
At the 2001 World Swimming Championships in Fukuoka , he came second over 200 meters and is the first Austrian to win a medal at a World Swimming Championships . There are also one gold, one silver and two bronze medals at various European swimming championships , all over 200 m chest. He also held the European record for this distance from January 25 to December 14, 2003. There are also numerous Austrian titles and records.
In total he took part in three Olympic Games , 2000 in Sydney , 2004 in Athens and 2008 in Beijing . He ended his career in 2013.
