Paola Milagros Espinosa Sánchez (born July 31, 1986 in La Paz , Mexico ) is a Mexican water diver . It starts in both art and tower diving as well as 3 m and 10 m synchronized jumping. She won medals at World Championships, Olympic Games and Pan American Games.

Paola Espinosa achieved her first major success at the 2003 World Swimming Championships in Barcelona . Together with Laura Sánchez , she won bronze in synchronized jumping from the 3 m board. At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens she was fifth in both synchronized competitions; from the 3 m board at Laura Sánchez's side, from the 10 m tower together with Jashia Luna . She also started in both individual competitions and took twelfth place in each case. At the Swimming World Championships in Montreal in 2005 , she reached the final again in both synchronized competitions, she was fourth on the 3 m board and sixth on the 10 m tower. In 2007 she won three gold medals and one silver medal at the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, including gold in the individual competitions from the board and from the tower. At the Swimming World Championships in Melbourne in 2007 , she finished seventh three times: in both synchronized competitions and from the tower.

A special honor was offered to her in 2008; at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games she was allowed to carry the flag of Mexico into the Olympic Stadium in Beijing. A few days later she also won the first medal for Mexico, in synchronized diving from the tower, she won the bronze medal together with Tatiana Ortiz .

At the World Championships in Rome , she won the gold medal from the 10 m tower and thus became world champion for the first time, ahead of the favored Chinese women Chen Ruolin and Li Kang . She was also able to win a medal at the 2011 World Championships in Shanghai , this time bronze from the tower behind the Chinese Chen Ruolin and Hu Yadan . She was also very successful at the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara . In her home country she won a total of three gold medals, in the individual from the tower, with Laura Sánchez in the 3-meter synchronized jumping and with Tatiana Ortiz in the 10-meter synchronized jumping as well as bronze from the 3-meter board.
