Alwin de Prins

Alwin de Prins (born October 29, 1978 in Dendermonde , Belgium ) is a Luxembourg swimmer.

He is a member of the top squad of the Luxembourg Swimming Federation (FLNS) and three-time Olympic participant. He specializes in the breaststroke courses .

Career

De Prins graduated from the European School in Luxembourg in 1996 and then began studying chemistry at Heidelberg University . After one semester he switched to economics and from autumn 1997 he studied business administration at the University of Trier . In 2006 he graduated with a degree in business administration in the field of marketing and innovation and has been employed by Fortis Banque Luxembourg since April 16, 2006 .

He started swimming in 1985 at Swimming Luxembourg . He celebrated his first international success in 1995 when he took part in the B finals over 100 meters and 200 meters chest at the European Junior Championships in Geneva . For his home country, De Prins has competed seven times in European championships (1995 in Vienna, 1997 in Seville, 1999 in Istanbul, 2002 in Berlin, 2004 in Madrid, 2006 in Budapest and 2008 in Eindhoven) and four times in world championships (1998 in Perth, 2003 in Barcelona, ​​2005 in Montreal and 2007 in Melbourne). He was also a participant in the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 , Athens in 2004 and Beijing in 2008 .

The greatest success was participation in the semi-finals over 200 meters breasts at the 1999 European Championships in Istanbul and over 100 meters breasts at the 2004 European Championships in Madrid. He was also able to qualify for the finals at the World Cup in Berlin in the 50 m and 100 m breaststroke in 2000.

In Luxembourg, De Prins was nominated for the best athlete of the year 13 times in a row and was awarded the Médaille du Mérite Sportif in silver.

Outside the pool, he is involved in several sports associations. He is a member of the Board of Directors and the Technical Commission of the Swimming Association (FLNS) as well as a member of the Athletes Commission of the National Olympic Committee (COSL). He is also Secretary General of the Association Luxembourgeoise des Olympiens (ALO).
