Turi Simeti (born August 5, 1929 in Alcamo ) is an Italian painter .

life and work

Turi Simeti is one of the best-known representatives of the Italian ZERO movement. He was born in Alcamo, Sicily, in 1929. At the age of 30 he moved to Rome, where he began painting as an autodidact after meeting Alberto Burri . Long stays in London , Paris and Basel also took place during this period .

In 1965 Simeti moved to Milan , where he joined the ZERO group, which also included Enrico Castellani and Agostino Bonalumi . As part of this young generation of Italian artists and together with other pioneers from Europe, South America and Japan, he took part in the legendary exhibition “ZERO Avantgarde” in Lucio Fontana's studio in Milan, alongside artists such as Heinz Mack and Otto Piene .

Turi Simeti lives in Milan . His works are in important museums and collections such as the Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, Museo d'Arte Moderna di Bolzano (Bozen, Italy), Galleria Civica d'Arte Moderna (Turin, Italy) and the Wilhelm- Hack Museum , Ludwigshafen.
