Christopher Sullivan (born April 18, 1965 in San José , California ) is a retired American football player. After the end of his career he worked as a trainer and sports commentator.

Youth and college

Sullivan started playing soccer at a young age. At the age of four he played for West Valley SC. He later attended the University of Tampa and plays for the college team there in the NCAA Division II.

Club career

In total, Sullivan played at clubs in seven countries. He began his playing career after college with the two French clubs Joué-Lès-Tours and Le Touquet. In 1989 he returned to the United States and played for the Orlando Lions in the American Soccer League . After a short time he returned to Europe and hired the Hungarian club Rába ETO FC Győr . Through the stations Landskrona BoIS and Brøndby IF, he came to the German football club Hertha BSC in 1992 . There he played for a season, but made only six appearances.

After his time in Germany he moved to Mexico to the Yucatan, then he returned to the United States and was under contract with the San Francisco Bay Diablos. During this time he interrupted his football career due to family matters.

After another season at Győri ETO FC in Hungary, he moved to Major League Soccer and played the 1997 season with the San Jose Clash . In the 1997 MLS Expansion Draft he was not protected by Clash, but neither Chicago Fire nor Miami Fusion selected him. Two weeks later, San Jose handed over to Miami. But he decided to end his career.

In 2003 he played again in the amateur league San Francisco Soccer Football League at El Farolito Soccer Club.

National team

His debut for the US national team , he was still at college times. In 1987 he was used for the first time in a game against Egypt. At the 1990 World Cup he was part of the squad. In 1992 he made his last international match.

After football

After his career ended, Sullivan worked as a football coach. He was a game reporter for Fox Sports Bay Area and worked on the Fox Soccer Channel's MLS Wrap. He also comments on various games of the US national team and major league soccer. He is considered to be well informed and a very good commentator.
