Rick DeMont

Richard James "Rick" DeMont (born April 21, 1956 in San Francisco ) is a former American swimmer .

At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, he won over 400 m freestyle . However, his medal was withdrawn from him because of the illicit use of an asthma drug , so that the jury subsequently declared the runner-up Brad Cooper the winner. The International Olympic Committee banned DeMont from the Olympic Games for life. He was the first swimmer in Olympic history to be disqualified for doping .

In 1973 he was able to win the world championship title in the 400 m freestyle at the first swimming world championships in Belgrade when he was able to relegate Olympic champion Brad Cooper to second place in the final run. In the same year, Rick DeMont was named World Swimmer of the Year . In 1990 he was inducted into the international swimming pool 's hall of fame .

In 2001 it was revealed that Rick DeMont was allergic to wheat and animal hair and the drugs he was taking at the Olympics were properly stated. However, the documents were not available to the Medical Commission of the International Olympic Committee at the time.
