Bruce Swedien (born April 19, 1934 in Minneapolis , Minnesota ) is an American sound engineer .

Sweden was born in Minnesota as a descendant of Swedish immigrants . He began his musical career in 1959 in the recording studios of Universal Recording Corporation of Bill Putnam in Chicago .

With the musicians in Europe, Sweden became known through a workshop tour in the 1990s and the advertising campaign as Famous Monster for the company Monster Cable.
He was the sound engineer at the mixer on the world's best-selling album, Thriller by Michael Jackson , and worked with Jackson for many more years. He has received 13 Grammy nominations and five Grammy Awards for Michael Jackson's Thriller , Bad and Dangerous albums and in 1991 for Quincy Jones' Back on the Block .
On November 10, 2001, he received an honorary doctorate in philosophy from Luleå Technical University , Sweden, for his services as a sound engineer .
