I Wanna Be Where You Are is a1972 Michael Jackson songthat appeared on the Got to Be There album. The piece was written by Arthur "T-Boy" Ross and Leon Ware , and it was produced by Hal Davis .
It was Jackson's third Top 20 hit while at Motown that the song reached # 16 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was the first collaboration between Ware and Ross, Diana Ross's younger brother . In 1976 the two became known with the song I Want You , written for Marvin Gaye . This song is considered the second version of I Wanna Be Where You Are .
However, the original not only made it onto the Billboard Hot 100 , but also made it to Canada (57th place) and Turkey (87th place). In the American chart categories Hot R & B / Hip-Hop Songs and Cash Box , it reached number 2 and number 7, respectively. The Marvin Gaye version came in at number 15 on the Billboard charts and on the Hot R & B / Hip-Hop charts even in first place.

- In 1977 Melissa Manchester recorded the song for her album Singin ' .
- In 1978 Dave Valentin designed an instrumental version of the song, which appeared on his debut album Legends and was also a debut of the then new release of GRP Records , a subsidiary of Arista Records .
- José Feliciano covered the song in Spanish for his first Motown Records album , which was produced by Motown Records director Berry Gordy . The single came out in 1982 with the title Ahora Si Quiero Amar .
- MC Lyte recorded the song in 1989 for the Poor Georgie Track .
- Grand Puba covered the song in 1995 on the 2000 album .
- Chris Brown covered the song and renamed it Yo (Excuse Me Miss) . The piece appeared on the album of the same name.
- Singer Mary J. Blige's version , called You Can't Hide from Luv , came out on The Breakthrough album .
- Jennifer Lopez also covered the song. Their version was called Gotta Be There and appeared on the 2007 album Brave .
- Murs version was Can It Be (Half a Million Dollars and 18 Months Later) and came out in 2008 on the album Murs For President .
- In July 2009, the rapper 50 Cent recorded a freestyle version of the instrumentals and sang a modified text, with the title then being called Michael Jackson Freestyle . The track appeared on the Forever King mix tape .
