Moonwalker is an American musical film from 1988 with pop star Michael Jackson in the lead role.

action

The film begins with a film montage of concert excerpts from the title Man in the Mirror . The following is a look back at Michael Jackson's life: his career as a singer, from the Jackson Five to the Bad World Tour , which began in 1987. This is followed by a parody of the Bad video with Badder , in which all actors, including Michael Jackson, are played by children.

Only then does the film plot begin: Michael Jackson and three children accidentally overhear the unscrupulous Frank Lideo ("Mr. Big") ordering his henchmen to give the children of the world drugs so that they become dependent on him. When the hidden listeners are noticed, they are chased by Mr. Big and his people. Michael Jackson manages to escape the gangsters by turning himself into a car and driving away from them. After Michael and the three children have fled to the "Club 30s", Mr. Big and his men can track them down and kidnap one of the children (Katie). Michael, Sean and Zeke pursue the bandits to their hiding place, but are surrounded by them when they enter. A shootout by the armed criminals ensues as Michael transforms into a robot and eliminates the henchmen. Then Michael transforms himself into a spaceship and saves the children's lives because they were under fire from Mr. Big and Michael was able to destroy him with his laser beam.

The individual sections of the story are connected by music videos from Speed Demon , Leave Me Alone and Smooth Criminal . Finally, Michael Jackson can be seen in a performance of the Beatles song Come Together . During the end credits, a performance by the a cappella group Ladysmith Black Mambazo will be shown with short making-of clips for the film, followed by a short version of the music video by Smooth Criminal .

Reviews

"Colorful and loud pop video fantasy mix."

“The film, which looks like a monumental video clip, builds up a completely synthetic world and stylizes its 'hero' as a charismatic leader and a modern savior figure. A tiring accumulation of embarrassments in their accumulation. "

“Inspired by trick technology, the whole thing is never a real film, more like a kaleidoscope of ideas and clips that somehow transcends the pure ego show in their own staging bordering on hubris and creates something amazing in a trashy way. Not a good film, but an exciting document. "
