Leopold Czejka also Cejka (born November 14, 1903 in Schwechat , Austria-Hungary ; † April 30, 1945 near Berlin , German Empire ) was an Austrian football player who was part of the national team during the time of the wonder team .

Club career

Czejka began his career in defense of the second division Germania Schwechat , where he was regularly used from 1921. In its first full season, Germania fought for promotion for a long time and finally had to admit defeat to the same points Vienna AC . Due to the departure of some regular staff, the club could no longer play a leading role in the league in the following years and Czejka moved to SK Rapid Vienna in 1925 .

There he initially formed the back row with Franz Solil , but was ousted in the course of the season by Roman Schramseis , who was also new to the club . He had one of his few missions in 1927 in the final first leg of the Mitropacup , when Rapid went down 6-2 against Sparta Prague . It was not until the 1928/29 season that he was able to secure a regular place next to Schramseis and at the end of the day celebrate his first championship title. In 1930 a second title followed and in the subsequent Mitropacup competition he reached the final with his club, where Sparta Prague was defeated this time with a total score of 4: 3.

Later, Czejka often played alongside Karl Jestrab , including in the championship title in 1935, but the number of his missions decreased and so he left the club in early 1937 and ended his first division career at FC Vienna . Then he returned to his hometown and still played for ASK / Phönix Schwechat .

National team

Czejka received his first draft for the national team in November 1930, when he formed the defense together with Roman Schramseis in a game against Sweden . The same defensive duo also ran in a representative game against Switzerland in June 1931 , which ended 2-0 and was declared an official international match by the ÖFB in the 1970s. Czejka appears in today's statistics as a national player of the wonder team era.
