Franz Weselik

Franz Weselik (born April 20, 1903 , † March 15, 1962 ) was an Austrian football player and coach .

Career

Weselik started his career at Blue Star Vienna in 1919 and joined SK Rapid Vienna at the age of 20 . In 1927 he celebrated his first major success with the Green-Whites by winning the Vienna Cup . In 1929 and 1930 he won the Austrian championship title with Rapid and celebrated his only international title by winning the Mitropacup . The year 1930 was the most successful of all for the striker, as he scored 24 goals in 20 championship games and was only the third Rapidler to become Austria's top scorer .

On May 6, 1928, Franz Weselik made a sensational debut in the Austrian national team . In the away game against Hungary in Budapest he contributed three goals to the 5-5 draw and was recommended for further nominations. Weselik was also part of the extended squad of the wonder team from 1931 to 1933 and was used in the games against Belgium (6: 1; 1 goal) and France (4: 0; 1 goal) during this era . He played his last game for the Austrian team on April 30, 1933 with the away game against Hungary (1-1; no goal). Overall, Franz Weselik was appointed to the Austrian national team eleven times between 1928 and 1933, scoring 13 goals.

In 1934 Weselik moved to France and signed a contract as a player-coach with FC Mulhouse , the promoted to Division 1. Franz Weselik was the third best league scorer in the 1934/35 season with 24 goals and finished sixth in the championship with the Alsatians . This placement represents the club's best result to this day. The Viennese stayed with Mulhouse for two more years, then moved to Jönköping for one season as a coach and did not return to Austria until the end of his career in 1938. Weselik signed with SC Red Star Vienna for the autumn season 1938 and then ended his active career.
