Matthias Kaburek
Matthias Kaburek (born February 9, 1911 in Vienna , † February 17, 1976 ) was an Austrian football player in the position of a striker . With his parent club Rapid he was able to win the Mitropa Cup in 1930 and become Austrian top scorer in 1935 . During the Second World War, the former Austrian national player also won the German championship in 1941 and was also called up for the Reich German team.
Career
Mitropacup winner 1930
Matthias Kaburek moved in 1928 from the third-class cricket team to Rapid in Hütteldorf . Already in his first season with the Green-Whites, the 17-year-old striker became champion and made it to the Austrian Cup final, where he scored a goal, but in the end Vienna was beaten 2: 3. In the following season Matthias Kaburek was able to repeat his success with the Hütteldorfer in the championship and even move into the Mitropacupfinale , the final of the forerunner competition of the European Cup . The opponent was Sparta Prague , which many of Kaburek's club colleagues had already lost in the 1927 Mitropa Cup final.
The Rapidler won the first leg 2-0 in Prague, in the second leg they scored a goal from Matthias Kaburek 1-0 ahead. Johann Luef forwarded a pass from Pepi Smistik to the center forward, who elegantly outplayed the Prague Ctyroky and shot in sharply. The Hütteldorfer lost the game with 2: 3 but were the first Austrian Mitropacup winner thanks to the better goal difference.
National team and intermezzo in France
At the beginning of the 1930s, Kaburek's team found it difficult to prevail against Vienna or Admira nationally . It was not until 1935 that the Hütteldorfer was able to leave the two tough competitors behind and become champions. Matthias Kaburek was also Austria's top scorer this season with 27 goals and was also allowed to play four games for the Austrian national team. Although he was already nominated for the 1934 World Cup , where the Austrians reached the semi-finals, he was not used himself. His big drawback was that the big "star" Matthias Sindelar stormed the national team in the same position as him , who could hardly be replaced. He played two games each against Switzerland and Italy, scoring one goal each against the Swiss.
In 1936 he moved to France and joined the first division club FC Metz . Although he had scored 15 goals in his only 18 matches - more than any other player in the "Garnet" - the Lorraine team loaned him to the US du Bassin de Longwy for the 1937/38 season . But the Austrian was not successful at this club either: the Lorraine team only finished last in the Eastern relay of Division 2 .
Return to Hütteldorf
In June 1939 Matthias Kaburek returned to Rapid. In 1940 and 1941 he was able to win the " Gauliga Ostmark" with the Hütteldorfer and subsequently become German champions in 1941. He himself was not in the famous final team, which beat FC Schalke 04 4: 3. Due to the progress of the Second World War, Matthias Kaburek was used less and less, but scored more goals than he played in most war seasons.
After the end of the war, Kaburek worked as a trainer from 1946 at ASK Hollabrunn and from 1947 at SK Židenice in Brno. In 1949 he took over the coaching position at ASK Patria Heidenreichstein .
