Career

society

Jakob Jantscher as a player in SK Sturm Graz

In his youth he played for SC Unterpremstätten and LUV Graz , before moving to the youth department of SK Sturm Graz in 2003.

On October 20, 2007, he made his debut in the professional team of Graz against FC Red Bull Salzburg when he came on for Thomas Krammer in the 83rd minute . The midfielder was able to achieve his first Bundesliga goal on November 24, 2007 against SCR Altach . During his time at Sturm Graz he scored 7 goals in 41 games for the amateurs and 14 goals in 74 games for the first team.

In June 2010 Jantscher signed a four-year contract with FC Red Bull Salzburg . He was able to fight for a regular place in the FC Red Bull Salzburg team from the first few games, and in his first few games he scored three goals for his new club. He was voted the best player of the 2011/12 Bundesliga season at the Bruno Gala organized by the footballers' association.

On September 6, 2012, Red Bull Salzburg announced that Jantscher would be transferring to FK Dynamo Moscow on loan for a year . The Muscovites also received a purchase option. Although Jantscher performed well in Russia and was a regular player, the Russians still did not take the option to buy and he returned to Salzburg. The reasons given were too high a transfer fee and the fact that Jantscher had scored too few goals. After his return to Salzburg, Jantscher could no longer assert himself at Salzburg and decided to move. At the end of the transfer period he moved to the Netherlands for NEC Nijmegen . There he signed a two-year contract until June 30, 2015. With Nijmegen he played the entire season against relegation, which was a completely new situation for him. In the end they saved themselves on a relegation place, but failed in the playoff games against Sparta Rotterdam with an overall result of 1: 4. Jantscher used the release clause anchored in his contract in the event of relegation and dissolved his contract to look for a new challenge. Despite interest from Germany and the Netherlands, he decided to move to Switzerland and joined FC Lucerne . There he signed a contract until summer 2017 and wore the shirt with the number 10. In his first season 2014/15 with FC Luzern, Jantscher was the best assistant in the Super League with 11 assists . FC Luzern scored 12 goals and 18 assists in 71 games in two years. Jantscher moved to Çaykur Rizespor in Turkey on August 31, 2016 , where he signed a contract until the end of June 2020. In December 2016 he left Rizespor.

In January 2018 he returned to Sturm Graz, where he received a contract that ran until June 2021.

National team

Internationally, Jantscher played five times for the Austrian U-19 team, five times for the U-20 team, and twice for the U-21 national team of Austria . For the qualifying game for the 2010 World Cup against Serbia on June 6, 2009, he was nominated for the first time for the senior national team under ÖFB team boss Didi Constantini . By being in the starting XI, he made his team debut in this game. In his sixth appearance on November 18, 2009, Jantscher scored his first goal in the A-team dress in a friendly against Spain . Jantscher played his last game so far in 2013 in the friendly against Greece , for the qualifying game for the Euro 2016 against Russia in June 2015 he was called up by team boss Marcel Koller to the squad.

At the European Football Championship in France in 2016 , he was included in Austria's squad. He was only used once, when he was substituted on in the decisive final group game against Iceland when the score was 1-1 in the final quarter of an hour. However, the game won the opponent and Austria was eliminated.
