Johann "Hans" Buzek (born May 22, 1938 in Vienna ) is a former Austrian football player .

Life

Buzek's parents come from Borský Mikuláš , western Slovakia . (The name Buzek should therefore be pronounced with a voiced S).

At the age of eleven he joined the Vienna student team and the combat team at seventeen.

Highlights of his career included the Austrian championship title with the Vienna 1954/55 in three classes, pupils, youth and combat team, as well as the title of Austrian top scorer twice (1955/56 and 1965/66).

The talent of the trained goldsmith (master craftsman diploma 1961) showed in the position of the striker ; he was a feared goal-getter and made 42 appearances in the Austrian national team . In 1955 he made his debut in a 2-1 win over Yugoslavia . At the Football World Cup in 1958 , he was at all three games in Austria. At the start there was a 3-0 defeat against Brazil. In the following game against the USSR Buzek missed a penalty against goalkeeper legend Lev Yashin when the score was 0: 1 . The game ended 0-2. Finally there was a 2-2 draw against England.

Hans Buzek was considered the youngest team player in history from his team debut, the international match against Yugoslavia on October 30, 1955, at 17 years and 161 days , until his age was undercut by David Alaba on October 14, 2009 - who was when he made his debut in the senior team 17 years and 112 days old. However, sports research in 2020 revealed that goalkeeper Ernst Joachim was younger than both of them when he made his debut on November 4, 1917, at exactly 16 years and 305 days.

Buzek gained a close relationship with the city of Baden near Vienna , both in his childhood and during his obligations in the national soccer team , which prompted him to open a goldsmith's business in Baden (Peterhofgasse 2) in 1963 and to run it until his retirement in 1992.

Hans Buzek has two sons with his wife Gertraude (married in 1959).
