The Austrian Football Championship 1958/59 was organized by the Austrian State Football League Association. The also professionally run State League B served as the substructure for State League A , but only clubs from Vienna , Lower Austria , Burgenland , Upper Austria and Styria played. The Tauern League North ( Salzburg ), the Tauern League South ( Carinthia ) and the Arlbergliga ( Tyrol , Vorarlberg ) were organized on an amateur basis for clubs from western Austria . The respective national leagues of the federal states acted as the third performance level.

First level - State League A

General

The championship in the state league was contested with 14 teams that met twice during the entire season. The Wiener Sport-Club was in the playing season for the 3rd time Austrian soccer champions and repeat the triumph of the previous year. To become unbeaten champion, SK Rapid Wien had only succeeded twice (1912/13 and 1934/35). The last two teams in the table had to be relegated. This hit Kapfenberger SV and SC Olympia 33, who were therefore no longer represented in the first division in the next season.

    General

The champions of the State League B rose directly, the runner-up was allowed to deny the relegation . The last three teams should have been relegated to the respective regional leagues, but this was changed by a new regulation of the second performance level from the 1959/60 season: The teams from Burgenland, Lower Austria and Vienna were assigned to the new Regionalliga Ost, Upper Austrian and Styrian teams played immediately with the Carinthian teams in the Regionalliga Mitte.

In Kärtnen a regional league Carinthia was not played because there was the Tauern League South and the next season, 1959/60, was abolished, then it was planned that the Carinthian clubs should play in the Regional League Middle in the 1960/61 season. Therefore, in the 1959/60 season, a state league card was created, in which the first three clubs in the lower league cards rose. SV Rapid Lienz became champions of the Carinthian sub-league and champions of Carinthia at the same time .
