The Amateursportvereinigung Salzburg is an Austrian sports club in the city of Salzburg in the Itzling district . It is divided into the sections Aikido , basketball , fitness , soccer , judo , athletics , bowling and tennis .

Emergence

The roots of ASV-ASKÖ Salzburg go back to the second decade of the 20th century. In 1912 Karl Rotschopf founded the "General Workers' Gymnastics Association" in Gnigl / Itzling , which still exists today as ATSV Salzburg . Towards the end of 1926, the athletes from Itzlingen, who were then active in the ATSV, decided to found their own club in the dual community. This was the hour of birth of the Itzling Workers', Gymnastics and Sports Association, in which from then on the sports enthusiasts from Itzling and Gnigler could participate in the sections floor and apparatus gymnastics, athletics, handball, fistball and skiing. In the course of the political unrest of 1934, the association was officially dissolved as part of the labor movement.

After the Second World War, the ATSV Itzling was re-established in 1946 and a football department was set up, which later became the strongest section in the club. In the same year, the ATSV leased a plot of land on Plainstrasse on which the club's own sports center now stands.

In 1948, in line with the trend at the time, the club's board decided to rename the workers', gymnastics and sports club to the Salzburg Amateur Sports Association. With the accession to the umbrella organization ASKÖ , the current name of the association came about.

Branch football club

Today's football club was launched in 1946 as the football section of the ATSV Itzling. The official re-establishment of the entire association took place the following year. In 1948 the name was changed to ASV-ASKÖ Salzburg. The former soccer section has been a separate branch of ASV Salzburg since 2003 and has this addition in the club name. The addition ASKÖ was removed from the club name in 2015.
