The FC Rot-Weiß Rankweil is an Austrian football club from the Vorarlberg municipality of Rankweil . He has been playing in the third-class Vorarlberg elite league since the 2019/20 season .

history

The FC Rot-Weiß Rankweil was founded on October 10, 1920 in the Gasthof Schneeberg . In 1957 and 1959, the club rose for one season each as Vorarlberg state champion in the second -rate Arlbergliga football league .
Even after the introduction of the new, second-class Regionalliga West , the club remained an elevator team for the time being - after being promoted in 1962, it was also only able to last for a year.

The first combat team has been playing in the Vorarlbergliga since the 2009/10 season. Eric Regtop has been the coach since the 2015/16 season .

The club in the Regionalliga West

Only after a successful relegation in 1964/65 was the club able to establish itself for a total of six seasons until 1971. The best result was two seventh places. After relegation to the Vorarlberg regional league, however, no return to the second division wanted to succeed. In 2002 the team made it to the third-class Regionalliga West. The 2008/09 season was disastrous. The team could not score a single point in 30 championship games and achieved a goal difference of 13: 142. From the 2009/10 season, the club had to compete in the Vorarlbergliga .

Vorarlbergliga since the 2009/10 season

When the club was relegated to the Vorarlberg League, it has always held up very well in the fourth-class league in Austria. With final rank number 4, the best position so far has been achieved since relegation in the 2011/12 season. But it gave you much worse seasons: In 2015, for example, the first combat team had to compete in the relegation against third place in the regional league, FC Schwarzach. There they were able to secure the league with a total score of 5: 4.

Fans: the OldTras at the Gastra Rankweil are an integral part of the FcRwR and celebrate it loudly in the south curve.

Women's soccer

A women's team already played in the first Vorarlberg women's championship in 1991 and became champions. From 1994 onwards, the Rankweiler women played in the Regionalliga West, which was founded together with the Tyrolean Football Association, and became champions in 1996; in the 1997/98 season the team no longer played in the Regionalliga West.

At the beginning of the 2011/12 season, the club took over the women's team from SC Röthis. In Röthis, the club management no longer wanted a women's team and there were disputes between the club management and the players. During this time, FFC Vorderland was founded , which took over the women's team from FC Sulz and wanted to found a single women's football club in the Vorderland region and play in Rankweil, but Rankweil decided to take over the women from Röthis and set up their own team. In the next season 2011/12 the team qualified for the 2nd division middle / west and played for promotion to the ÖFB Women's Bundesliga in 2018/19.
