The SC Austria Lustenau II is the second team of the Austrian second division club SC Austria Lustenau . The team has been playing in the Vorarlberg elite league, the third highest division , since the 2019/20 season .

history

The amateurs of Lustenau rose in 2001 for the first time in the fourth-rate Vorarlberg League on. In the debut season in the fourth-highest division, the team finished third, three points behind the champions FC Rot-Weiß Rankweil . In the 2002/03 season Lustenau II was ten points behind FC Viktoria 62 Bregenz runner-up. In the 2004/05 season the team became champions and was promoted to the third-class Regionalliga West for the first time . In the debut season in the Regionalliga, Vorarlberg finished ninth. In the 2006/07 season they finished last in the table and thus rose again after two seasons to the Vorarlbergliga, the Lustenauers were five points short of the non-relegation places. The season didn't start badly for the amateurs of Austria Lustenau, after the first half of the season they were still in the top 10. From the 17th matchday onwards, however, they were sometimes completely without a chance and did not make a point, the catastrophic second half of the season was crowned by a 14-2 defeat against Red Bull Juniors on the last matchday, one of the highest defeats in the history of the Western League.

Back in the fourth division, things went better for the Lustenau team: In the 2007/08 season, as runner-up, they missed immediate promotion to the regional league, one point behind VfB Hohenems . In the 2008/09 season, however, a slump followed: At the end of the season they finished eleventh, relegation to the national league was only avoided because of the better goal difference compared to FC Lauterach . Curiously, they met Lauterach on the last day of the match and were behind until the 83rd minute, before a goal from Arben Selmani to make it 2-2 late fixed the relegation. In the 2009/10 season you could not avoid relegation as the bottom of the table, five points were missing on the saving bank. After nine years they returned to the national league.

In the 2010/11 season, however, they became champions in the fifth highest division and rose again to the Vorarlbergliga after one season. The first season after returning was quite successful, as sixth you had nothing to do with relegation. In the 2012/13 season the Lustenau amateurs finished ninth. The 2013/14 season was trickier again, as eleventh you were only two points ahead of the relegation ranks. The team finished seventh in the 2014/15 season. In the 2015/16 season they narrowly missed promotion as third, three points behind Hohenems. Lustenau II finished sixth in the 2016/17 season.

In the 2017/18 season, he went back to the bottom half of the table in twelfth place. In the 2018/19 season they finished seventh. Since the Regionalliga West was dissolved after the 2018/19 season and replaced by the elite leagues of the federal states, the Vorarlbergliga had seven promotion places available, whereby Lustenau II rose again after 13 years in the third division. In the debut season in the Vorarlberg elite league they finished ninth after the basic round and would have had to play to stay in the relegation group, but the season was canceled prematurely due to the COVID-19 pandemic .
