The FC Viktoria 62 Bregenz is an Austrian football club from the Vorarlberg state capital Bregenz .

Association

The soccer club was founded in 1962 as the second Bregenz soccer club. The venue is the FC Viktoria 62 Bregenz sports complex.

15 youth teams play their games under the name Viktoria Bregenz. The club's 1b team plays in the third Vorarlberg regional class. The club is currently led by Christian Skarlatos as the youngest chairman in the club's history. In the 2012/2013 season Viktoria Bregenz has 17 players from her own offspring in the first team. The coach is Günther Riedesser.

The club history

Potato field and church barrack

It all actually started in Achgasse in the pre-monastery. More than 50 years ago, enthusiastic footballers played there and were pretty frustrated. It would be important to have your own soccer field, ideally a soccer club, of course.

Street footballers had no chance at what was then SW Bregenz, the second soccer club in town, the railway sports club, was about to close.

Five people from Achgasse then sit in the Heidegger inn in the summer of 1962 and come to the conclusion: “We're going to found an association!” Hermann Dalpiaz, born in 1932, was there at the time. He is the only one of the founders who is still alive, and his enthusiasm has stayed with him. “I was already 30 when I started playing football.” He lasted for twelve years and he is probably one of the few who played on the same team with his son.

“After the meeting, I went to see Mayor Titian with Pepi Mazagg. We have presented our request to him. ”Then suddenly things move rather quickly. In New America there is a potato field owned by the city and it becomes the new football field. The association was founded immediately, which the Security Directorate for Vorarlberg “did not prohibit” on August 24, 1962, as it is called in official German. The first chairman of FC Viktoria is Josef Mazagg, Willi Goller is the section head, and Robert Erler is the secretary and treasurer.

In the association's statutes of 1962 it can be read that the exercise of football and the cultivation of sporting comradeship should take place “to the exclusion of any party politics”. Furthermore: "Any innocent athlete who has left elementary school can become a member of the association."

And floodlights shine right at the start. The masts for this can be obtained cheaply from VKW, as Hermann Dalpiaz knows. The fact that the square itself is not exactly level does not slow down the enthusiasm. "When it hit the Holperfeld, the ball jumped somewhere, you could never have foreseen that," laughs Hermann Dalpiaz, who at the time was only called "the deer" because of his speed.

Combat team, 1b team and youth

Kurt Siller, who was 14 years old at the time, was there from the start. He is a soccer player with heart and soul. “As soon as that was possible, I was put up for the combat team. I also played in the 1b team and with the youth! "

A real cabin was not built until 1965, with separate rooms for the home and visiting teams.

In 1974, Hans Gort found out how quickly you could get a position at Viktoria. As the father of a young player, he criticized the training style. “You know what, then try it yourself,” said the chairman at the time. Hans Gort takes over the chairmanship and heads the association from 1974 to 1976. "I made a special effort to attract the next generation," he emphasizes in retrospect.

Tree on the training ground

From the very beginning, the Viktoria has used the so-called "Katzenmutterplatz", named after the neighbor with whom around 30 cats live, as a training ground. In the middle of the square a tree protrudes which, according to the landowner (Schoeller), should remain - until Heinz Wallner accidentally drives a heavy device against the disturbing tree ... The replacement planting is then just on the edge. Under chairman Heinz Wallner, the first ground floor clubhouse was built from 1974 to 1976. In 1983, the renovation of Viktoria-Platz began on its own, creating the south-facing mound of earth.

Active chairmen Wallner and Gasser

Today's clubhouse, including changing rooms and additional floors, was built in 1991–1992, with Herbert Engstler and Erich Gasser bearing the main responsibility at that time. Floodlights for training on the "Katzenmutterplatz" can be installed between 1995 and 1996. At Whitsun 1999 Viktoriaplatz becomes a duck pond and floods fill it up. The city of Bregenz is responsible for the increase and renovation, with Kurt Deuring and Erich Gasser as chairmen at the time.

The club took a big step forward when the new training ground New America was built in 2001–2002 with a grass pitch and artificial grass cage. Erich Gasser is involved in the city's project as chairman. In 2009 the city finally took over the buildings of FC Viktoria 62 Bregenz. The two chairmen, Paul Halder and Christian Skarlatos, supported by expert helpers, negotiated. With the new kitchen in the clubhouse, the construction work has temporarily ended.
