history

The history of Olympia 33 goes back to the Westend sports club , which was dissolved in 1933 due to its increasingly political activities. In the same year , Erwin Puschmann, a member of the KPÖ , initiated the SC Olympia 33 for the communist youth as a successor club. The association was able to gain success in sports especially after the end of World War II, the soccer players got in 1954 in the Vienna State League , which at that time represented the third power level. Already in the first year they qualified as first in the table for the relegation games to the B-League , which were successful 0-0 and 6-3 against SC Harland .

In order to cope with the growing number of spectators, the club recently moved from its own sports field in Steinbruchstrasse to the Red Star Square in the nearby Fünfhaus . In the first B-League season in 1955/56 , Olympia finished fourth just one point behind a relegation place, but in 1956/57 they were promoted to the top of the table together with FC Vienna in the A-League .

Up to 10,000 spectators came to the first division Olympia in Fünfhaus. The club was able to assert itself safely in the league and also caused a stir with victories over established clubs such as Austria , Vienna and GAK . Striker star Julius Kovazh even played for the Austrian national team . After he left the club for Kremser SC and other players after the end of the season, the first game of the season with a 0:10 against Rapid showed that relegation was now almost impossible.

Ultimately, Olympia was relegated to the Regionalliga Ost with only 8 points . Here you could establish yourself in the middle of the table, but already joined forces during the 1960/61 season with SK Slovan Vienna, who played two classes lower . The resulting club was called Slovan Olympia before it was shortened to Slovan again in 1969. Slovan, who lost his home stadium in Favoriten due to financial problems , was able to take over the Olympic sports field in Steinbruchstrasse, where the club has remained at home to this day.
