Erich Hasenkopf (born February 20, 1935 - † July 12, 2021 ) was an Austrian football player . He won two championship titles with the Wiener Sport-Club and played in the Austrian national team .

Club career

Hasenkopf made his debut in the fighting team of the Vienna Sports Club in August 1951 in the runner series. The Dornbacher rose at the end of the season in the second-rate state league B, but were able to ensure the promotion immediately. During this time Hasenkopf was only used irregularly. However, when he took up defense in the spring of 1954, he had found his regular place.

In the following season, the sports club fought for the championship title until the last day of the match and ultimately only had to admit defeat due to the poorer goal difference of Vienna . In the next two years, the Dornbacher fell back into the midfield of the table, but in the 1957/58 season the defensive line consisting of Hasenkopf, Heinrich Büllwatsch and Alois Jaros allowed the fewest goals against in the league and the sports club was able to secure the championship title. The following year, the team therefore played in the European Cup of national champions , where they were able to turn a 1: 3 from the first leg against Juventus Turin with a 7-0 home win in the first round and finally made it to the quarter-finals.

Also in the following season Hasenkopf won the championship with the Sport-Club, this time the team remained unbeaten for the entire season and set a league record of 41 unbeaten games in a row. In the championship cup you reached the quarter-finals again. Hasenkopf stayed six more seasons with the black and whites, where he played in defense together with Wilhelm Kainrath and Johann Windisch and always ended up in the top five of the championship. In 1965 he finally left his parent club and moved to SPC Helfort Vienna in the second-class regional league, where he was active for two more seasons.

National team

His first appearance in the national team was in October 1956 in a 2-0 draw against Hungary . When team boss Karl Decker took office in October 1958, Hasenkopf was an integral part of the national team's defense as a full-back. He was involved in some of the major victories of the Decker era in the early 1960s, including a 4-1 win over Scotland and 3-1 against the current European champions, the Soviet Union . In total, he made 31 international matches by April 1964 and ended his international career with a 1-1 draw against the Netherlands .
