Rudolf Zöhrer (born March 28, 1911 , † February 12, 2000 ) was an Austrian football player in the position of goalie . During the 1930s, the national player completed a match for the legendary wonder team, among other things . However, he achieved his greatest success when he won the Mitropa Cup in 1936 with FK Austria Wien .

Career

Rudi Zöhrer began his career as a football player with the workers' sports club SC Nord-Wien in Jedlesee in 1912 , from where he moved to the professional district neighbor Admira in 1930 . In his first season in 1932 as a regular goalie with the black and white he was able to win the double . Rudi Zöhrer was able to repeat this success in 1934, but had to hand over his position to Peter Platzer before the end of the season . During his time in Jedlesee, the goalkeeper also worked in the wonder team. In the 4-3 win over Sweden in Stockholm , however, he did not get any good reviews, so that Hugo Meisl did not consider him for that for a long time .

After being replaced by Platzer, the goalie came to Austria Wien , where he played until the end of his career. With Matthias Sindelar's team , Rudi Zöhrer was particularly successful in the cup . In 1935 and 1936, he guarded the gate when the Violets won. He achieved his greatest triumph in Ober Sankt Veit by winning the Mitropacup in 1936, the forerunner of today's European Cup . With these good performances he played his way back into the national team. With the team he managed to qualify for the World Cup against Latvia , but could not take part after the annexation of Austria by the German Reich . During the Second World War he stayed with the badly battered Austria.

In 2006 the Rudolf-Zöhrer-Weg in Vienna- Floridsdorf (21st district) was named after him.
