Mitropapokal 1927

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Mitropapokal 1927 was the 1st edition of the international cup competition, the most important continental soccer competition in the period before the Second World War. The best teams from Austria , Hungary , Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia took part. It was mostly the champions and cup winners of the respective countries. The participants played in pure cup mode with home and return matches. In the event of a tie after two games, a playoff would have been scheduled. All eight clubs started in the preliminary round or in the quarter-finals.

The finals took place within two weeks on October 30 and November 13, 1927 in Prague and Vienna. In the first final in the history of the Mitropacup, the Austrian cup winner SK Rapid Wien and the Czechoslovakian champion Sparta Prague faced each other - this final was to be repeated in 1930. At home, Sparta was able to win the final first leg 6: 2 and after a defeat 1: 2 in front of 40,000 spectators against Rapid Vienna, they were the first Mitropacup winner. The top scorer was Josef Silný of the winning team Sparta Prague with five goals.
