Mitropa Cup 1940
The Mitropapokal 1940 was the 14th and, before the war-related interruption, the last edition of the international cup competition and was dominated by the German expansion policy in the course of the Second World War . In addition to the clubs from Austria, the clubs from the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia were now also prevented from participating. The Italians gave up because of the Second World War. Only clubs from Hungary , Yugoslavia and Romania took part, so that, as in the previous year, the quarter-finals began. As in previous years, it was the champions, runners-up and cup winners of the respective countries. The participants played in pure cup mode with home and return matches. In the event of a tie after two games, a playoff was played.
Ferencváros Budapest reached the final for the fourth time in a row and for the sixth time in total, which was a record. Due to the worsening war situation, the two finals were no longer played. A continuation of the competition in the war years was out of the question. According to the statistics available so far, the Hungarian György Sárosi from Ferencváros Budapest was the top scorer with five goals.
