The Mitropapokal 1938 was the 12th edition of the international cup competition in football . The best teams from Hungary , Czechoslovakia , Italy , Yugoslavia and Romania took part. Since the participation of the Austrian clubs was not possible due to the invasion of the German armed forces and the annexation of Austria to the German Reich , the number of participants from the first three countries was increased to four and the field of participants was completed by two teams each from Yugoslavia and Romania, so that one could start with the round of 16. As in previous years, it was mostly the champions, runners-up and cup winners of the respective countries. The participants played in a pure cup mode with two legs in the most important continental football competition in the period before the Second World War .
The two Romanian representatives Rapid Bucharest and Ripensia Timisoara surprisingly prevailed in the round of 16 against the title holder of 1929 Üjpest FC and Milan AS. The defending champion Ferencváros Budapest reached the final again, but lost there to Slavia Prague which won the title. This was the third time in the history of the competition that the title went to a Czechoslovak club. The finals were directed for the third time after 1934 and 1935 by English referees. The top scorer was Josef Bican from Mitropacup winner Slavia Prague with ten goals.
