The Marxdorf village church is a stone church in the Marxdorf district of Vierlinden in the Märkisch-Oderland district of Brandenburg .

location

The village street spans the elliptical village green. The building stands roughly in the middle on a plot of land that is not fenced .

history

Marxdorf, originally Marquardestorp , was first mentioned in a document in 1244. The village belonged to the possessions of the Templar Order , which had its headquarters in the commandery of the neighboring village of Lietzen . As the holder of the church patronage , the order built the church between 1246 and 1255. After the Templars were expropriated in 1312, the Johanniter became the lords of Marxdorf until 1810.

The Brandenburg State Office for the Preservation of Monuments and the State Archaeological Museum (BLDAM) also refers to the renovation work in the 15th century that was not explained in detail. The Dehio manual mentions changes to the tower and the east gable of the choir , which were probably made in the 14th / 15th centuries. Century. In 1850 the village church was modernized. The bell storey of the tower and the pointed spherical helmet were made of brick, the windows were renewed and expanded. At the same time, the pulpit altar and the galleries were given their 21st century appearance. After damage during the Second World War , the church building was restored and re-consecrated in 1956. After 1999 extensive renovation work was carried out.

Building description

The structure was essentially built from field stones , which were relatively carefully hewn and layered in layers. The choir has moved in and has a rectangular floor plan. In the east wall there is a narrow arched window, which probably dates from the time the church was built.

This is followed by the nave to the west . It also has a rectangular floor plan. However, the windows do not originate from the construction period, but have been enlarged “ baroque ”.

To the west is the square church tower . It is slightly drawn in opposite the ship. The bell storey , however, was built from brick . On each side there are two coupled, arched sound arcades , above a tower clock. Above is a tower decorated with pinnacles , which ends with a tower ball and cross. To the west of the tower is a vestibule that was also built from brick. Above the round-arched tower portal of the church, the St. John's Cross was built in as a stone relief.

Furnishing

The pulpit altar , like the rest of the church furnishings, dates from 1848. It consists of two columns each with a polygonal pulpit cage inserted between them. Above is an octagonal sound cover . About it the saying from the 1st letter of Peter can be read: “The word of the Lord abides forever” (1.25 EU ). Inside there is a gallery on the west and north sides . The Sauer organ from 1963 was relocated in 1968 .

A bell from the 14th century hangs in the tower. It bears the inscription "O Rex GLORIAE Veni CVM PACE" (O King of Honor, come with peace through Mary).
