Commandery Lietzen
The most important building in the community is the Commandery of the Knights Templar in the district of Lietzen-Nord. The Commandery (also called Comanderie or Kommende ) is the last recognizable knight seat of the Knights Templar in Brandenburg. It was built by the Knights Templar in 1232. Pope Innocent IV confirmed the Templars ownership of Lietzen and the neighboring villages in 1247. Around 1250, the construction of the single-nave Romanesque commandery church and the manor house began. The large warehouse dates from the beginning of the 14th century. After the dissolution of the Templar Order in 1312, its Lietzen property was taken over by the Order of St. John . With the secularization , the Commandery came into the possession of the Kingdom of Prussia in 1812 . 1814 transferred King Friedrich Wilhelm III. von Prussia gave the manor to his state chancellor, Prince Karl August von Hardenberg, for his services. Due to the involvement of Carl-Hans Graf von Hardenberg in the assassination attempt and coup d'état of July 20, 1944 , the family's estate and the entire property were confiscated by the National Socialists. After the war, in the wake of were land reform in the Soviet occupation zone ( "Junker land into farmers' hands") the Hardenberg in 1945 SBZ finally expropriated. During the GDR era, the commandery later became VEG Lietzen (Volkseigenes Gut) and pig breeding company.
Since the von Hardenberg family had already been expropriated in the Third Reich because of their involvement in the assassination attempt of July 20, 1944, they were able to assert their claims to the Lietzen Commandery after German reunification as part of the transfer back. Since 1993 the Commandery has been privately owned by the von Hardenberg family again , who are again managing the Commandery and the associated farm. The grounds of the Commandery and the Commandery Church are open to the public.
