Ernst Gebauer
Ernst Gebauer (born May 23, 1782 in Lietzen , † July 7, 1865 in Berlin ) was a Prussian portrait and court painter .
His works from the Wars of Liberation against Napoleonic rule are particularly well known . Prussia's King Friedrich Wilhelm III. had his training promoted after Gebauer had sent him a copy of a Christ's head in 1811 and gave the painter a gift of money. A portrait of Blücher was reproduced as a copper engraving at Gebauer's suggestion in 1815; the 900 thalers raised went to injured soldiers. In 1816 Gebauer published a portrait of the king; The 89,000 thalers redeemed from this and in other ways up to 1836 were used for charitable purposes, among other things the money went to an orphanage.
