Freudenstadt Hauptbahnhof is the most important train station in the large district town of Freudenstadt and a nationally important railway junction in the northern Black Forest .
location
The Freudenstadt Central Station is located in the southeastern city at the point where the Bahnhofstrasse in the Dietersweiler road passes. The address of the station is Hauptbahnhof 1 .
Construction of the station
In the station building there is a Deutsche Bahn travel center , a bakery and a kiosk , parking spaces and a bus station on the station forecourt .
The station has a house platform ( platform 1) and an additional central platform (platforms 2 and 3). Track 1 is mainly used for light rail traffic in the direction of Karlsruhe ( Murgtalbahn ), from track 2 all connections usually run via the Gäubahn in the direction of Eutingen im Gäu and Stuttgart . Individual trams (arriving trains from Karlsruhe to continue to Eutingen im Gäu and vice versa) also run from platform 2. For the traffic on the Kinzigtalbahn towards Hausach and Offenburg , platform 3 is mainly used.
history
In 1879, the city was connected to rail traffic with the construction of the Gäubahn, which ran from Stuttgart via Herrenberg and Eutingen im Gäu to Freudenstadt. Since its continuation into the Kinzig valley was already planned at that time (and was built as part of the Kinzig valley railway in 1886), the main station was built in the southeast of the city, relatively far from the center. In 1901 the Württemberg part of the Murg Valley Railway to Klosterreichenbach was built. The city train station, 60 meters higher, was built north of the center. A continuous connection to Rastatt was established in 1928. Freudenstadt Hbf is therefore the starting point for three railway lines. All rail tracks for freight traffic have been removed.
In 1996, a pair of InterRegio trains ran daily in the afternoon from Freudenstadt via Karlsruhe to Emden . This took about the same time for the trip to Karlsruhe compared to today's S-Bahn connection.
business
The Murg Valley Railway provides the connection to Karlsruhe and is operated by the Karlsruhe Stadtbahn . The lines S8 and S81 of the Albtal-Verkehrs-Gesellschaft (AVG) connect Freudenstadt via Rastatt with Karlsruhe. The S8 tram runs every hour to Karlsruhe city center and the S81 express train line every two hours to Karlsruhe main station and then on to Odenheim or Menzingen . The stops within Freudenstadt are the main train station, the Schulzentrum / Panoramabad stop , the city train station and the industrial area stop . All Freudenstadt stops are served by light rail vehicles every half hour during the day. The S8 runs - unusual for rural areas - until the early hours of the morning.
Eutingen and Stuttgart are connected by the Gäubahn. There is an hourly train service with increased school traffic. Since 2006 the S8 (initially S41) coming from Karlsruhe has been running every two hours via Freudenstadt to Bondorf, where there is a connection to the RE Stuttgart– Singen . In between there is a direct connection to the state capital Stuttgart with the RE Stuttgart – Freudenstadt . As on the Murgtalbahn, the S8 runs on the Gäubahn until early in the morning.
