Railway stations in Baden-Württemberg

The station Rastatt is next to the breakpoint Rastatt Beinle one of two passenger stations of the city of Rastatt in Baden-Wuerttemberg . It is an important hub station for four lines of the Karlsruhe Stadtbahn , which are operated by the Albtal-Verkehrs-Gesellschaft (AVG). It is also served by regional and individual long-distance trains operated by Deutsche Bahn AG (DB) . The station is located at route kilometer 96.5 of the Rheintalbahn and at route kilometer 82.9 of the Rheinbahn and is the starting point of the Murg Valley Railway to Freudenstadt .

history

The city of Rastatt received its first rail connection on May 1, 1844, when the Grand Ducal Baden State Railways opened the Heidelberg - Karlsruhe section of the Rhine Valley Railway. Since Rastatt was a federal fortress at that time and was thus protected by a rampart and a moat, the route was initially led past the city to the east. The first Rastatt train station was therefore on the site of today's industrial district.

On May 31, 1869, the first section of the Murg Valley Railway was opened; the Rastatt train station thus became a hub station .

With the abolition of the federal fortress in 1890, the train station could be relocated to the west near the city center. This is where today's station building was created .

In 1895 the Rheinbahn was added as the third railway line , which was extended from Karlsruhe to Haguenau for strategic reasons . On this route, however, the cross-border rail traffic to France was stopped in 1966 and the line to Wintersdorf was dismantled.

The station was connected to the electrical railway network in the 1950s when the Rheintalbahn and Rheinbahn were electrified.

In 1994 Rastatt was integrated into the Karlsruhe light rail network. Initially, the trams only ran on the Rheinbahn, but in the following years, Stadtbahn operations were also started on the Rheintalbahn and Murgtalbahn, so that the station is now served by four tram lines.

South of the station, the construction work on the Rastatt tunnel in August 2017 led to an unexpected lowering of the track, which interrupted traffic on the Rhine Valley Railway at this point. As a result, from August 12 to October 2, 2017, Rastatt station became the final stop for all passenger trains on this route. A rail replacement service transported the passengers to the Baden-Baden train station , from where the journey could continue. As a result, it became clear that the station no longer meets modern requirements. Therefore, a pedestrian walkway is to be built over the tracks between 2020 and 2023. Furthermore, the platform edges are to be raised and the platforms are to be provided with a guidance system for the blind.

The station has six platform tracks, all of which can be used continuously. Track 1 can be reached via the house platform , the other five tracks via three central platforms . Regional and long-distance trains run by Deutsche Bahn to Konstanz via Offenburg on tracks 3 and 4, as do Stadtbahn trains to and from Baden-Baden and Achern (S7, S71). Tracks 5 and 6 are used exclusively for traffic on the Murgtalbahn to and from Freudenstadt (S8, S81). Tracks 1 and 2 are no longer regularly used for passenger traffic; Cross-border Rheinbahn trains used to stop there.

To the north of the passenger station is the Rastatt freight station , to the west the central bus station . There are several city and regional bus routes operated by the Rastatt transport company under the Rastadtbus brand name .

The points and signals are set by a SpDrS60 type interlocking, which is located on track 1 and is locally manned.

Long-distance transport

Until the timetable change in December 2014, Rastatt was the stopping point for IC 26 journeys to and from Constance. Since it was discontinued on December 14, 2014, there have been two intercity buses on the route between Offenburg and Stuttgart , which bring commuters to Stuttgart and back during the week. Since December 2016, these have been directly linked to IC 30 trains in the direction of Hamburg and Greifswald.
