The old villages of Altmädewitz, Altreetz and Altwustrow were built centuries before the drainage and colonization of the Oderbruch as settlements for fishermen at the time. The colonist villages Neukietz, Neuküstrinchen, Neumädewitz, Neuranft, Neurüdnitz, Neureetz and Neuwustrow, on the other hand, date from the second half of the 18th century. The old villages often still have remnants of the old round shape with houses that are close together, while the new villages are usually arranged in a linear fashion.

While the district of Mädewitz belonged to the district of Oberbarnim from 1818 to 1952 (until 1947 the province of Brandenburg in Prussia ), the rest of the municipality was part of the district of Königsberg Nm until 1945 . in the Neumark . After the Oder-Neisse border was established, it was incorporated into the Oberbarnim district. Between 1952 and 1990 the places of today's municipality belonged to the Bad Freienwalde district in the GDR district of Frankfurt (Oder) .

The Oderaue community was created on October 26, 2003 through the voluntary amalgamation of the previously independent communities of Neurüdnitz, Neuküstrinchen and Neureetz. The municipalities of Altreetz and Zckericker Loose were incorporated by law on the same day.

Infrastructure

Road traffic

Oderaue is located on the L 28 state road between Bad Freienwalde -Gabow and the Neukietz part of the municipality and on the L 281 between Altranft and the Neurüdnitz part.

railroad

Former Neu Rüdnitz station (2009)

The Wriezen - Jädickendorf railway line, opened in 1892, with the Altmädewitz, Alt Reetz and Neu Rüdnitz stations west of the Oder, ran through what is now the municipality. The track on the section between Wriezen and the Oder was dismantled in 1945 as a reparation payment , but rebuilt around 1955 in connection with the rebuilding of the blown up Oder bridge. In 1957, passenger traffic between Wriezen and Neu Rüdnitz was resumed. The last passenger trains ran in 1982, but the line remained operational for military purposes.

Oder bridge at Bienenwerder

After the fall of the Wall , around 2000, the Deutsche Bahn had the line dismantled and in 2005 an asphalt bike path was created on the route, part of the Oder-Neisse cycle path . The Europabrücke Neurüdnitz – Siekierki is the longest bridge over the Oder and was built around 1920. The viaduct consists of two bridges, one behind the other, each 330 meters long. This structure has been closed because of massive damage since the mid-2010s. The EU has now released funds for renovation, with the help of which the steel girder bridge is to be made usable again by 2021. Cyclists and hikers can then reach the Moryńer Heights on the Polish side and the Moryner See on short distances from Neurüdnitz.
