Tobias Morgenstern (* 1960 in Dresden ) is an accordionist , composer and co-founder of the Theater am Rand .

Life

Tobias Morgenstern was born in Dresden in 1960 as the son of a graduate engineer in industrial construction and a kindergarten teacher. He grew up in Dresden and attended the 82nd Polytechnic High School there . From the age of 6 he received accordion lessons in the music school " Paul Büttner " in Dresden. After graduating from high school, he began studying accordion and composition at the Liszt School of Music Weimar , where he began teaching music theory and improvisation in 1981 . From 1982 to 1986 he worked as a music dramaturge and arranger for the Erich Weinert Ensemble .

In 1987 he started his own business as an accordionist, composer, arranger and producer . In the following years he founded the group L'art de passage (with Rainer Rohloff, Stefan Kling, Gunther Krex, Hermann Naehring ), the label Cooleur , the production group TONART Music Concept (with Rainer Rohloff) and in 1991 Gibellina-Arts AG in Baden / Switzerland (with Rainer Rohloff and Geri Müller ).

At the same time, numerous musical projects were created in collaboration with Gerhard Schöne , Bettina Wegner , Matthias Freihof , Reinhard Mey , Rio Reiser , Jalda Rebling , Volker Braun , Ursula Karusseit , Winnie Böwe , Wolfgang Krause Zwieback , Hans-Eckardt Wenzel and Peter Ensikat . More than 50 CD productions were developed and presented on international stages on concert tours to Italy, the Czech Republic, Poland, France, Switzerland, the USA, the United Emirates and Canada.

Since the 1990s Tobias Morgenstern has also composed several music for films and radio plays, including for Matulla and Busch by Matti Geschonneck and for Stilles Land and Nachtgestalten by Andreas Dresen .

In 1998 he founded the Theater am Rand in Zollbrücke im Oderbruch together with the actor Thomas Rühmann . There is a weekly changing program in the theater. At the same time he released his solo debut album Morgenstern.

In addition to his activities as a theater director and freelance musician, Tobias Morgenstern designs workshops at the music academies in Weimar and Berlin, participates as a jury member at the Klingenthal International Accordion Competition and taught accordion and improvisation at the Hanns Eisler University of Music Berlin . In 2005 the commissioned composition Les yeux dans le paysage was premiered at the Staatstheater Cottbus , a work for accordion, guitar and symphonic orchestra.

The commissioned work followed in 2008 as a compulsory piece for the Klingenthal International Accordion Competition Vom Staat der Welt , a concert in four movements for accordion and large orchestra. A CD production followed in 2010 and the concert program There are days ... with Armin Mueller-Stahl , Günther Fischer and Tom Götze. Since 2011 he has been giving concerts in Germany and Austria.

Morgenstern lives with his wife and children in Schiffmühle in the Oderbruch.
