Schiffmühle is a district of the town of Bad Freienwalde (Oder) in the Märkisch-Oderland district ( Brandenburg ).
Geographical location
Schiffmühle is located about three kilometers north of the city center of Bad Freienwalde on the Alte Oder . The street village stretches along a street for about four kilometers.
history
On January 1, 1946, the three villages of Schiffmühle, Neutornow and Gabow merged to form a community under the name of Schiffmühle. The new name of the place should originally be Gabow. Since there was a member of the KPD in Schiffmühle , the Soviet commander in charge elected him mayor and so Schiffmühle got the place name.
Neutornow was founded as a colonist village between 1755 and 1760 after the Oderbruch had been drained. The inhabitants came mainly from Hessen-Darmstadt and the Rhine Palatinate .
Gabow was originally a Slavic Rundling . The first documented mention of it comes from 1337. The typical shape of the round village was lost in 1810 in a fire.
In 1753 Schiffmühle was first mentioned in a document. Workers from the surrounding brickworks and sawmills lived here. In 1847 Schiffmühle became an independent village.
On October 26, 2003, the previously independent community was incorporated into Bad Freienwalde (Oder) .
Place name
Schiffsmühle comes from to 1770 on the banks of the Oder -powered ship mill .
Neutornow was named after Tornow , later also Alttornow , an old fishing village on the eastern edge of Bad Freienwalde (part of the urban area).
Gabow had Slavic origins.
