L'art de passage

L'art de passage (French; German for example: "The Art of the Ganges" or "The Art of Encounter") is a German world music and jazz band founded in 1987 .

Band history

In February 1987, L'art de Passage presented itself as a jazz formation with its first concert in Leipzig's Moritzbastei .

The founding members included Tobias Morgenstern (accordion), Rainer Rohloff (guitar), Stefan Kling (piano, keyboards) and Gunther Krex (bass guitar), who had previously played for Engerling . Hermann Naehring (percussion, drums) played as a guest musician with L'art de passage before he became a permanent member of the band in 1988. Morgenstern, Kling and Rohloff had studied classical music at the Liszt School of Music in Weimar , while Naehring had studied piano and drums at the Hanns Eisler School of Music in Berlin .

In 1988 the first radio productions took place. Her first album Sehnsucht nach Zusammenarbeit , produced by the Amiga record label , reached a circulation of 30,000 in 1989 after just a few months. This made it the most successful jazz album in GDR history. L'art de passage took part on an open-air tour with songwriter Gerhard Schöne in the summer of 1988 . The highlight was a concert with 12,000 visitors on the Insel der Jugend in East Berlin . In the same year they played as the opening act for Al di Meola in Berlin's Friedrichstadtpalast . Hermann Naehring left the band around 1991.

Krex left the formation in the mid-1990s. Since then he has been working mainly with theater music in his own recording studio.

From 1990 to 1997 L'art de passage made tours to France , Switzerland and Italy . The band also took part in various festivals in Germany, such as the Leipzig Jazz Days , the Erdinger Jazz Days , the Berlin Music Biennale and the Weimar European Cultural Workshop .

L'art de Passage celebrated its tenth anniversary in 1997, which became the accompanying band of German songwriters , in the Tränenpalast with Gerhard Schöne , Gisela May , Barbara Thalheim , Linard Bardill , Corin Curschellas and others. From 1998 to 2007 she played as a backing band for the songwriter Bettina Wegner .
