Jalda Rebling
Jalda Rebling (* 1951 in Amsterdam ) is a German cantor , actress and singer of Yiddish songs and medieval music .
Life
Her parents, the artist couple Lin Jaldati and Eberhard Rebling , met in 1937 in the Netherlands, where Rebling had emigrated before the Nazis . In 1952 the family moved to the GDR . Jalda Rebling studied acting at the State Drama School in Berlin and has been an interpreter of Yiddish and Sephardic songs and stories since 1979 . In the 1980s she made guest appearances on international stages with her sister Kathinka Rebling (violin) and her parents. Since 1981 she has been working with Hans-Werner Apel and Stefan Maass (lute), since 1994 with Susanne Ansorg (fiddles) and Michael Metzler (percussion) and since 2000 with Tobias Morgenstern and Franka Lampe (accordion).
Jada Rebling was the initiator and project manager of the UNESCO World Cultural Decade “Days of Yiddish Culture” in East Berlin from 1987 onwards . From 1994 to 2006 she played Yiddish plays in the Hackescher Hoftheater in Berlin. There she cooperated with Mark Aizikovitch and Burkhart Seidemann . She toured to Jewish music festivals in Europe and North America . From 2003 to 2007 she studied in the ALEPH Cantorial Program in the USA. She has been a Chasanit since 2007 . Yalta Rebling is a member of the Berlin Jewish Community in the New Synagogue . In 2007 she founded the initiative of Jewish women "Ohel Hachidusch", which is part of the Jewish Renewal .
She has taught at the Hebrew Union College and Elat Chayyim in New York and the University of Colorado at Boulder .
Rebling has three sons and lives with the artist Anna Adam in Berlin.
