The Foundation for the Preservation of Church Monuments in Germany ( KiBa Foundation ) is a foundation of the Evangelical Church in Germany and its member churches . The foundation was established in 1997. The foundation office is located in the EKD church office in Hanover-Herrenhausen . Eckhart von Vietinghoff has been the CEO since 2010 .

history

In 1996 the project group “Fundraising for ecclesiastical monuments in the eastern member churches of the EKD” had the idea of ​​establishing the foundation, which took place in November 1997 by a resolution of the EKD Council. In 1999 the foundation was made known to the public in the ARD benefit program “So that the church stays in the village”. In 2001 the foundation office moved from Hamburg to Hanover. In the same year an award committee was established.

task

The foundation takes care of the maintenance of Protestant churches in Germany. A special focus is on village churches in eastern Germany. Since 1999, the foundation has given 920 funding commitments for renovations with a volume of 23.6 million euros. The foundation also takes on the task of advocating the interests of church monuments and their preservation in public, and works together with the MDR and the ZDF . It works closely with the German Foundation for Monument Protection and other foundations. The magazine KIBA Aktuell , which reports on the work, appears four times a year . The foundation presents the Church of the Month once a month and the Church of the Year every year . A development association with over 2,400 members supports the work.

Sub-foundations

The foundation maintains 14 sub-foundations (name and theme foundations), including the Orgelklang Foundation and the Brandenburg Village Churches Foundation as the largest special assets .
