Community structure

The inhabited parts of the municipality of Klessin , Podelzig, Siedlung and Wuhden as well as the residential areas Neu Podelzig and Schäferei belong to the municipality of Podelzig.

The main town of Podelzig has grown together from several parts, but they do not have their own district character: Altpodelzig (on the heights), Neupodelzig (colony) below the mountain slope and Podelzig settlement (formerly: sugar factory).

history

Until the 19th century

The Slavic name "Podolzk" indicates a previous Slavic settlement, probably since at least the 8th century. Settlement has been archaeologically proven since the 11th century (excavations in the old church in 2004).

The village of Podelzig was first mentioned in a document in 1354; At the same time as the town of Lebus, Podoltzgk was handed over from Margrave Ludwig II to Bishop Heinrich II. Around 1400 Hans and Peter von Borghaßdorf ( von Burgsdorff ) were the feudal owners of the village, as well as Hans and Heinrich Weynschutz and Heinrich List, but they did not acquire any shares in Podelzig. The 1439 deceased Lebuser Bishop Peter II. Of Burgdorff is probably the burial site were those buried by Burgdorff in Podelzig. Already before 1495 to around 1514 the von Gellnitz (Göllnitz) had a residential courtyard in Podelzig. In 1497 Hans von Göllnitz sold the village of Birkholz to Bartholomäus (Barthus) Kracht on Groß Rietz .

On April 4, 1563, Hans von Burgsdorff, born in 1515, became the owner of the manor; he later acquired a second knight's seat , two sheep farms and a windmill in Podelzig, as well as several villages in the area. In 1594 he bought a third of the entire village of Podelzig from his distant relative Levin Burgsdorff for 13,000 thalers. After the Reformation was introduced in the Mark Brandenburg in 1539 , Podelzig also received an evangelical preacher in the middle of the 16th century. As a result, renovation and repair work was carried out on the church.

During the Thirty Years' War there was multiple severe devastation and looting. In 1636 Podelzig was sacked by the imperial troops under Colonel von Manteuffel , the church was damaged, the rectory was set on fire and the pastor Crupsacius was murdered. In August 1639, Podelzig was set on fire by Swedish troops under Colonels Drewitz and Stenbock; almost the whole village was destroyed. After the end of the war, the manor owner Arnim von Burgsdorff requested electoral help for the rebuilding of the rectory in 1652, as Podelzig was completely impoverished.

Around 1674, Elector Friedrich Wilhelm bought about half of the place and set up a Vorwerk for the Lebus domain office in Podelzig, to which the then independent village of Wuhden already belonged. After the draining of the Oderbruch by Frederick the Great was founded in 1775 New Podelzig as colonists village and wore long the term "colony". Podelzig took part in the economic boom, in 1829 the road from Frankfurt (Oder) to Manschnow was built through Podelzig, in 1856 the Frankfurt – Küstrin railway via Podelzig was set up, although Podelzig only got a stop in 1879.

20th century

In 1928, the rural communities of Alt Podelzig and Neu Podelzig and the estate districts of Adlig Podelzig and Königlich Podelzig were merged to form the Podelzig community. The districts of Klessin and Wuhden were incorporated into Podelzig in 1946 and 1950.

At the end of the Second World War , Podelzig was 85 percent destroyed by the acts of war during the Battle of Berlin . Lying in the main combat zone, the place was subject to constant attacks and counter-attacks by the Wehrmacht and the Red Army . The station and supply lines were destroyed. Of the approximately 1000 inhabitants previously, only 180 returned to Podelzig; 52 of them died of typhus. In the following years 20 people were killed in mines. The rectory was also completely destroyed; the old documents contained therein and church records are completely burned.

Podelzig belonged to the Lebus district in the province of Brandenburg since 1817 and from 1952 to the Seelow district in the GDR district of Frankfurt (Oder) . The municipality has been in the Brandenburg district of Märkisch-Oderland since 1993.
