Location of Klessin in Brandenburg

Klessin is a place in the district of Märkisch-Oderland in Brandenburg and is part of the municipality of Podelzig .

history

Germanic and Slavic body burials could be detected in the location. In 1254 Klessin ( Knutschin of Slavic origin) was first mentioned in a document. From 1824 to 1874 Louis von Gansauge was the tenant of Klessin.

The last owner of the estate in 1945 was Otto von Albedyll . On February 4, 1945, a Volkssturm battalion was in town. Later the first units of the Panzer Grenadier Division "Kurmark" arrived and strengthened the Volkssturm unit from Munich. On March 22nd, Klessin had to be abandoned. The place was completely destroyed by the heavy and costly battles and large parts (castle with town center) were not rebuilt. In 2009 and 2010, the voluntary helpers of the Association for the Rescue of Fallen in Eastern Europe (VBGO) were able to recover a further 13 fallen German soldiers. So far only a small part of the estimated 300 German dead has been rescued.

After the war, a state-owned estate was established in Klessin.

Since 2008, the cycling race around the Zeisigberg has been organized locally by the Frankfurter Radsport-Club 90 (FRC) from Frankfurt (Oder) . The circuit consists of a 4.5-kilometer route with a steep 800-meter ascent and a no less long descent and leads around the towns of Klessin and Wuhden .
