About this picture

Zechin is a municipality in the Märkisch-Oderland district in Brandenburg . She belongs to the Golzow office .

Community structure

The districts of Buschdorf , Friedrichsaue and Zechin are designated for the community . Inhabited parts of the community are Baiersberg, Gerickensberg, Lehmannshöfel and Zechiner Loose. There are also the Eckel, Eichenhof, Loosa and Siedlung residential areas .

history

During excavation work on the Garnischberg , 2.5 km away , archaeologists found remains that could be dated to the Stone Age . Further excavations led to the proof that the region was already settled at the time of the Slavs . In 1313 the community was first mentioned as Zechyn when Margrave Waldemar united the village with the diocese of Lebus . Around 1400 14 houses have survived in Zechin, the inhabitants of which initially went fishing and after the surrounding fields were drained, they also farmed and raised livestock. The spelling Zechin first appeared in 1624. Friedrichsaue however, was in 1723 as Vorwerk by King Frederick William I founded. In 1737 there were almost 400 inhabitants in Zechin. There was a mill, a forge, a line weaving mill and a wheelwright shop . In addition, three shepherds worked in the village. In the years 1764 to 1766, three spinner villages were built in the Hohen Busch : Baiersberg , Gerickensberg and Lehmannshöfel . They were supposed to supply the wool factories in Berlin with spun wool.

19th century

The three districts developed differently; Zechin was attested to have a "town-like character" as early as 1860. On the night of October 29th to 30th, 1769, a fire broke out in which most of the buildings were destroyed. These fires led to a royal order that in future individual streets were only allowed to use one central oven. The existence of a school is recorded for the first time in 1780. In 1785 Zechin - like other villages - was flooded by the Oder. Around 1800 Zechin was the branch church , while the parish church was in Golzow . From 1815 onwards, farmers began growing oil fruits and sugar beets . The population increased, and so did the children. In 1826 a new school building with three classrooms opened next to the church. Due to the increasing sales of agricultural products, there was an upswing in the place. In 1831 there were four bakers, four butchers, six shoemakers, nine tailors, seven carpenters and four blacksmiths. Furthermore, three mills and five looms have survived, as well as nine shops, an inn and two jugs. The half-timbered church burned down in 1838 and was replaced by a new building in 1840. In 1851 an industrialist built a sugar factory in Friedrichsaue, and in 1861 a second school building was added in Zechin. 1866 around 100 people died in a cholera - epidemic . Nevertheless, in 1895 there were already 1,680 inhabitants.

Since 1900

Makeshift church in Buschdorf

In 1926, the three Spinnerdorfer merged to form Buschdorf. All three districts were destroyed in the Second World War. The church in Buschdorf - like many other sacred buildings in the region - was blown up by German troops to make it difficult for the advancing Red Army to find their way around . After the end of the fighting, reconstruction began, which was hampered by floods in the spring of 1947. In place of a massive sacred building, the residents built a makeshift church. In the German Democratic Republic , the districts were given a more rural character, particularly through the land reform in Germany . In 1953 the Agricultural Production Cooperative Forward to Socialism was founded . Among other things, a kindergarten, a school and in 1962 in Zechin in an outdoor pool were built.

Since the turning point and the peaceful revolution in the GDR , there has been a cautious tourist development. In 1994, for example, a campsite was added to the outdoor pool on the Oderbruchbahn cycle path . Buschdorf and Friedrichsaue were incorporated on December 31, 1997. While the names of GDR politicians and communists have been removed from street names in many places in East Germany since 1990, the municipality of Zechin renamed a side street of the main street to Wilhelm-Pieck-Straße in August 2007 (after the first GDR President Wilhelm Pieck ). As a young journeyman carpenter, Pieck had worked in a carpentry shop in the street that is now a memorial.

Administrative history

Zechin belonged to the Lebus district in the province of Brandenburg since 1817 and to the Seelow district in the Frankfurt (Oder) district from 1952 . The municipality has been in the Brandenburg district of Märkisch-Oderland since 1993.
