Vlastimil Kopecký
Vlastimil Kopecký (born October 14, 1912 in Vilémov , Austria-Hungary , † July 30, 1967 in Hlinsko , Czechoslovakia ) was a Czech football player and coach. He was runner-up in 1934 with the Czechoslovak national team .
Career
Vlastimil Kopecký started playing football at the Prague club Rapid Vinohrady. At first Sparta Prague was interested in the striker, but his father, a supporter of Slavia Prague , was able to prevent the transfer. Finally, in 1932, Kopecký moved to Slavia, where he spent his entire career.
Kopecký was considered a great talent and was appointed to the Czechoslovak national team only a short time after his league debut. However, Kopecký suffered a 5-1 defeat against Switzerland in his first international match . At the Football World Cup in 1934 , in which Czechoslovakia had to admit defeat only in the final Italy 2-1 after extra time, Kopecký was only one of the substitutes. In 1938 in France he was one of the top performers, but the team was eliminated in the replay against Brazil , Kopecký succeeded in the 1: 0 defeat of the opening goal.
At Slavia Kopecký was used in the 2-3-5 system between the center forward and the left winger. Initially, his main task was graduation, when Josef Bican came to Slavia in 1937 , he often served the legendary striker as a template. Nevertheless, Vlastimil Kopecký scored 252 goals in 325 first division games for Slavia Prague, only his long-time teammate Bican managed to achieve more. In the club ligových kanonýrů he is second. Kopecký was nine times champion with Slavia, in 1938 he won the Mitropa Cup .
In 26 international matches for Czechoslovakia, more prevented by the war years , Kopecký scored eight goals and was team captain twice.
In 1959 he worked as a trainer at Slavia Prague.
Vlastimil Kopecký died of a heart attack on July 31, 1967 during a football match of the Old Men of Slavia Prague in Hlinsko .
