Jaroslav Burgr (born March 7, 1906 in Velké Přítočno near Kladno , † September 15, 1986 ) was a Czech football player .

Career

Jaroslav Burgr started playing football when he was seven in Kročehlavy , now a part of Kladno . In 1920 he joined the local club SK Kročehlavy , and at the age of 16 he played regularly for the first men's team. The then leading Czechoslovakian football clubs quickly became aware of the defender .

At the age of 18 he received an offer from Viktoria Žižkov , but turned it down. Shortly afterwards Slavia tried to sign Prague Burgr. Since the officials Slavias could not offer the young defender anything for a change, Burgr said again. Only Sparta Prague offered 2000 crowns in 1926 and Burgr changed clubs.

At that time Sparta Prague had a well-rehearsed defensive trio, consisting of Antonín Hojer , Antonín Perner and Karel Steiner . Burgr initially only played for the reserve team. His great moment came in 1927 in the Mitropacup final against Rapid Vienna after Antonín Hojer had been injured shortly before. Burgr performed well and was then part of the Spartan team. Two years later he became team captain and made his debut in the Czechoslovak national team . Burgr also became a fixture in the national selection. He took part in the 1934 World Cup in Italy , in which Czechoslovakia was runner-up, and also played at the 1938 World Cup in France . In total, Burgr wore the jersey of Czechoslovakia 57 times and led the team onto the field as captain nine times.

Burgr played 625 games for Sparta and was captain of the team for 13 years. In 1946 he moved to SK Most , where he ended his career in 1950. His last appearance was at the age of 44 in a friendly match between SK Most and Sparta Prague.

Burgr won the national championship with Sparta Prague in 1927, 1932, 1936, 1938, 1939 and 1944. In 1927 and 1935 he won the Mitropa Cup with his club.

Burgr was considered an uncompromising, tough, but at the same time fair defender. After his active career, he returned to his learned profession butcher .
