Johann "Hans" Hoffmann (born January 6, 1908 ; † November 30, 1974 in Vienna ) was an Austrian football player who won two championship titles with SK Rapid Vienna in the 1920s and was once a member of the national team in 1929 . In the 1930s he also won championship titles in German Bohemia and France.

Club career

Hoffmann made his debut at the age of 17 in November 1925 as a center forward in the Rapids fighting team. He replaced club legend Richard Kuthan in this position and was able to draw attention to himself with nine goals in his first season. Also in the following two years he was part of the regular formation of the Sturm series of Hütteldorfer, where he played together with Ferdinand Wesely , Franz Weselik and Johann Luef . In 1927 he was able to celebrate his first title with a 3-0 victory in the final of the ÖFB Cup over FK Austria Wien . In the same year, the team took part in the Mitropacup , which was held for the first time , where Hoffmann scored four goals in the first round against Hajduk Split , but was not used in the final, which was lost to Sparta Prague .

From 1928 Hoffmann played increasingly on the right runner position, but had strong competition there with Josef Frühwirth and Josef Madlmayer , so that his number of stakes decreased accordingly. During this time he was able to win two championship titles with Rapid and also reached the final of the Mitropacup , where he was part of the squad for the first leg against Ferencvárosi FC this time, but had nothing to oppose the 7-1 defeat.

After losing his place in the fighting team, Hoffmann moved to the second division club SC Weisse Elf Wien in 1931 , but returned to Rapid again in the fall, where he was used as a winger. In December 1931, the daily newspapers reported his move to Brigittenauer AC , but whether he actually played there appears to be doubtful; in any case, he could not show a championship appearance with the first division club at the time.

In any case, from 1932 he worked for DSV Saaz in Czechoslovakia . The Saazer belonged to the strongest teams of the German-Bohemian branch and had brought a number of players from Viennese clubs to Northern Bohemia. Hoffmann, for example, played together with Josef Horejs , Walter Hanke or his former Rapid colleagues Franz Hribar and Johann Wana . In 1934 and 1935 the team became champions of the DSV and played in the first Czechoslovakian professional league in the 1935/36 season, but where they did not manage to stay up.

Hoffmann probably left the Saaz during the season and moved to the French Division 1 at Racing Strasbourg , which was supervised by Josef Blum . There he played in a team with Oscar Heisserer and Oskar Rohr as well as his compatriots Karl Humenberger , Johann Wana, Anton Cay , Wilhelm Schaden and Franz Chloupek . The Blues achieved third place in the championship in its first season, the following year the team was sixth, but reached the final of the cup competition , where they had to admit defeat to FC Sochaux 2-1. Following moved it to Hoffmann-final opponents and took the team to Roger Courtois , Étienne Mattler , Andre Abegglen and Ferdinand Faczinek the title .

After his time in France, Hoffmann returned to Vienna, where he worked as a player-coach for the now third-rate White Elf.

National team

Hoffmann's only assignment in the national team took place in March 1929, when he was called up in a 3: 3 against Czechoslovakia as the right side runner in a series of runners consisting entirely of Rapidlern with Josef Smistik and Johann Luef.
